Fran and Dan's Wedding at Voewood, Norfolk

Fran and Dan’s wedding was one I had been excited for ever since they’d originally booked, well over a year in advance. Not only were they getting married at one of the most amazing venues in Norfolk, Voewood, they were also absolutely lovely clients to have.

Their day began with Fran and her bridal party getting ready in the bridal suite at Voewood, which had a brilliant view out onto the lawn where she was due to tie the knot in just a few hours. With the bright and colourful bouquets from Romeo & Succulent decorating the room alongside the deep purple bridesmaids’ dresses, and Fran’s gown hanging pride of place, it was a beautiful setting to prepare for the day ahead with the help of Deb of Hairsmiths and Kirstie Barton on makeup.

Once the bride tribe were ready, it was time to head outside for their outdoor ceremony. An amazing arch had been set up at the end of the aisle, where Dan waited anxiously for his bride. Their humanist ceremony, officiated by celebrant Dawn Rees was absolutely beautiful; it was wonderful to listen to their love story, and to hear the loving words their friends and families had to say about them. After they’d said their vows and exchanged their rings, it was time for confetti and group photos.

With their wedding breakfast fast approaching, I pulled the couple away for some intimate portraits, before we headed back inside for some introductory speeches and food. There was another chance for couple photos just as the sun set below the trees, after which they and their guests relaxed on the terrace with fire pits and drinks. As the light began to disappear, Fran threw her bouquet, and then we were in the main hall once again for their first dance – and that’s when the real party began! Although I only stayed for another hour, it was clear that Fran, Dan, and their guests were ready to dance the night away.

I had so much fun at Fran and Dan’s wedding at Voewood. Full of colour, laughter and love, it was a gorgeous summer celebration. Fran, Dan and their guests were all absolutely amazing, exuding happiness throughout the day and welcoming me as one of the group. And it was so lovely to see some familiar faces! I’m thrilled I was able to be a part of this gorgeous day and so happy for Fran and Dan. Congratulations!

My roots in photography lie in 35mm photography - when I was younger I was constantly taking photos on little point-and-shoot cameras, and going into university it was a major focus of my work. Although I do currently shoot the majority of my work on digital, I’ve decided to test out hybrid shooting, i.e. photographing with both digital and analogue cameras.

For Fran & Dan’s wedding at Voewood, I shot using Kodak Portra 400 on my Canon AE-1, and the results can be seen below. I absolutely loved the colour tone of the Portra stock, but did have some issues - hence the light leaks! There is definitely room for improvement, but going forward I’m hoping to shoot at least one roll of film per wedding until I get back into the swing of shooting with 35mm cameras again!
