Milly and Joe's Wedding at Rookery Meadow, Norfolk
Milly and Joe’s wedding was one I had been excited for all year. Set in the beautiful Rookery Meadow on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, it took place over two days in order to accommodate their guests amidst the Covid restrictions – and both days were simply beautiful!
Having already tied the knot officially, they asked their close friend Faith (and, on the Sunday, Milly’s sister Rose) to officiate the most heartfelt ceremony I’ve photographed in a while. It was clear from not only their personal and emotional vows, but also the reactions of all of their guests, that these two are meant to be together and are so, so loved by everyone around them.
After their vows, I took the two for a walk around the lake to get some lovely just-married portraits, and then we joined their guests for games and drinks. Soon after, Joe pulled out a guitar and surprised Milly by serenading her with not one but two songs – a moment that, once again, had everyone reaching for their tissues. Before long it was time for speeches and food, prepared by the wonderful Leigh Catering, along with a Scottish whisky and Suffolk gin tasting to celebrate the families and heritages of the couple.
Once we’d taken a few more group photos outside, the amazing Gatsby’s Jukebox were ready to start playing their modern-turned-vintage music. Milly and Joe swayed and twirled to their first dance, before the tempo became more upbeat and all of their guests joined them on the dance floor. They partied through the night and it was just so much fun capturing every moment, from the handstands and play-wrestling on the dance floor, to the human pyramids and garden games outside.
Emotional, romantic, and full of laughter, Milly and Joe’s wedding weekend at Rookery Meadow was simply amazing. I was made to feel so welcome by their friends and families, and enjoyed every moment I was there. Congratulations again to the fabulous Milly and Joe!
